Inkjet printing

Air bubbles disturb the acoustic field in piezo-driven ink jet printheads. In this project we try to reveal the mechanism responsible for air entrainment using high-speed imaging. We also perform numerical modeling of the microbubble dynamics in the printhead channel combined with high-speed imaging through a glass model of the print head. The ultimate aim of this project is to develop an acoustic protocol for the controlled removal of the disturbing microbubble from the ink jet channel.
